 More Info: In celebration of Black History Month, the Royal Ontario Museum presents Stitching Community: African Canadian Quilts from Southern Ontario, an exhibition that uses quilts made from 1848 to 1976 to explore the role of African Canadian women in strengthening community ties. The exhibition focuses on the African Canadian community in North Buxton, Ontario- a community comprised of many freed slaves who settled in Canada.

The exhibition showcases artifacts loaned from the Buxton Museum and items from the Ontario Black History Society, including quilts, photographs, tools of the trade and a variety of black cloth dolls.

To make access to the property more convenient, Mount Pleasant Cemetery will open its gates one hour earlier during the summer months. Gates will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. from April 1st to September 30th, 2010.

Historical Mount Pleasant Cemetery is located at 375 Mount Pleasant Road and its grounds are bordered by Merton Street and Moore Avenue, Yonge Street and Bayview Avenue.

 More Info: The Music By The Bay Festival is the ultimate experience, spotlighting new and emerging artists under the age of 21. Taking place along Liverpool Road South and at Millennium Square in Frenchman's Bay on the shores of Lake Ontario in Pickering, Ontario. This annual 1-day music blowout features stages offering live music from 1:30-dusk (last year, Canada Day Celebration attendance topped 30,000). Backline provided; just plug in and play. The festival celebrates diversity in music and features a variety of local, regional and national performers in genres including everything from alternative, country, R&B and reggae to blues, zydeco, rock n' roll, pop, and more.

This year's Music By The Bay Festival will be held on July 1, 2010, as part of Pickering's Canada Day Celebrations and will continue to provide exciting entertainment for all ages and musical tastes. There are a variety of restaurants and shops in the area plus children and families will enjoy the Waterfront Park making Frenchman's Bay a summer destination. Pack a lunch, bring the dog and plan to spend a day by the bay.

Gord Miller, Environmental Commissioner of Ontario was given new responsibilities to look at energy conservation in Ontario. He released his first First Annual Energy Conservation Progress Report, Volume One: Rethinking Energy Conservation on May 3, 2010.

In his report, Miller warned, "The government's approach to energy conservation appears uncoordinated and improvised, with no clear plan. We are too focused on electricity. We need a strategy that addresses conservation of all sources of energy.”

For his future reports, the commissioner is collecting stories from Ontarians about barriers and initiatives to energy conservation.
